# Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Professional School of Education

In coordination with other Berlin universities, the Professional School of Education (PSE) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has developed a mentoring qualification concept designed to prepare mentor-teachers to **support teacher-students during their practical semester at schools**. This gives us an opportunity for exchange with mentors even before the practical phase has begun. We hope to work together with them to develop a common idea of the best way for us to support student development. Our discussions with mentors will cover the following **themes**:

1. **Student coaching** through orientation discussions and teaching meetings
2. **Didactic study content** (skill level and common difficulties experienced by students)
3. **Handling heterogeneity** (language training in specialist teaching, inclusive specialist teaching)

The plan is for mentoring during the practical semester to be configured as follows: At the beginning and end of the placement and as part of an interim assessment, the mentors will hold **orientation discussions** with students to jointly formulate and reflect upon objectives for professional development during the practical semester. During the **teaching meeting** they will provide students with support, in particular by applying and reflecting upon didactic study content in practical situations.
