# 3MT® – Three Minute Thesis Competition

## The next 3MT Competition is in planning for September 2026.
## 3MT Competition 2026 at UZH
A global contest in science communication, the 3MT® was founded by the[University of Queensland](https://threeminutethesis.uq.edu.au). Winners from local contests compete in the global [Universitas 21 (U21)](https://universitas21.com/opportunities/competitions/three-minute-thesis-competition/) virtual final in October.
Participants will have only three minutes to bring the quintessence of their research across to a general audience.

## Guidelines & rules
- Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes are disqualified.
- Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs).
- Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through either movement or speech.
- A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations or movement) and is to be presented from the beginning of the oration.
- No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted.
- No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.
- The decision of the 3MT jury is final.
