A graduate assistantship (GA) a set of duties performed by a graduate student that results in a stipend and compensation.

Assistantships are offered by colleges and departments across Michigan State University and are not offered directly through the Graduate School. Students should check for opportunities at their college or department.

Graduate assistant appointments fall into one of three categories:

• Research assistants
• Teaching assistants represented by the Graduate Employees Union
• Teach assistants not represented by the MSU – Graduate Employees Union Collective Bargaining Agreement
